The Different Types of Clamps and When to Use Them
With several adjustable clamping systems available in the market, it can be hard to keep track of which ones to use for the right job. There are different clamps for metalwork, woodwork, lifting, aerospace fastening, and more.
When
you are looking for clamps, always use a piece of scrap wood between the clamp
jaws and wooden parts to prevent any damage. Apply clamp load perpendicularly,
use at least two clamps to prevent rotation, and never overtighten the clamp.
That said, the following are different types of adjustable clamps you should
know about.
Dimide
Clamp: This is a heavy-duty metalworking and welding clamp that specializes in
combining speed and power. It is designed for high torque load and is highly
reliable in case of squeezing parts together, preventing part slippage, and
removing the clamp bottleneck from the production line.
C-Clamps:
The popular standard go-to clamp for many occasions. Its simplicity and
availability are unmatched and can be used for anything. Every clamp collection
starts with a few C-Clamps, available for different occasions.
F-Clamps:
These are designed for wide opening capacity. It has a slider bar that allows
the opening capacity to easily adjust itself, hence satisfying several ranges
of applications. Due to its opening capacity, it is used when C-Clamp can’t be
used.
Pipe
Clamp fixtures: The pipe clamp is like the F-Clamp, the only change being the
use of a sliding bar to slide through the pipe.
